Q. Will the flags hook or snag on the bushes, etc?
A. No, they are low-profile so they don't hook up and are made with a double material that attaches with high grade Velcro. They are double sewn by a professional seamstress.
Q. How do they attach?
A. The flags have a velcro strip sewn accross the entire width (approx 3-4 inches) of the flag that will wrap around your dogs collar and velcro to itself. You would attach one flag on each side. Very easy on/off application.
Q. Won't they just fall off?
A. No, these have been field tested with our very own beagles, in all types of weather conditions and through extremely thick brush here in Newfoundland. I have never had one come off.
Q. Why do I need Blaze flags on my dog(s)? I have bells on them, isn't that enough?
A. Obviously, it is entirely up the the individual hunter as to what types of safety measures they take with their dogs. When I'm out there I like to know where my dogs are, especially with the pups that tend to be running around a bit while in training, and the flags help with that.
Q. I have never needed anything to help distinguish my dogs from a hare?
A. I feel that it isn't always yourself you have to look out for. Dogs here can run a Hare for several kilometers and they do run into other hunters, etc. A little blaze on the makes them stand out as not being something to shoot at.
Q. How did Beagle Blaze even start?
A. An unfortunate accident and the loss of a great companion/hunting dog (A.k.a. Rocky). I've talked to several hunters now who read the Story of Rocky in the Nl Sportsman Magazine who say that they have lost dogs the exact same way.
If this helps one hunter from pulling the trigger in error then I'm satisfied that it's been worthwhile.
